About Your Periodontist

Mehdi Saber, D.D.S., M.S.D., F.I.C.D., F.A.C.D. is a noted board certified specialist in periodontics and dental implantology. He uses the most up-to-date methods to ensure you get the best possible treatment. These include: single & multiple implant placement, and advanced cosmetic procedures to enhance your smile.

Dr. Saber received his dental and specialty degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. After completing his thesis and Master of Science in Dentistry, he started his solo practice limited to periodontics including implants in Cranford, New Jersey.

Dr. Saber has served as President, Vice-president, Editor and a member of Constitution & Bylaws Committee in the Union County Dental Society. He is a delegate to American Dental Association and New Jersey Dental Association. In the Northeastern Society of Periodontists, he is the Editor and the Treasurer. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the Periodontal Clinical Investigations Journal.

Dr. Saber is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and an Associate Clinical Professor of Periodontics at NYU School of Dentistry, Department of Periodontics. He was a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Fellowship in both organizations is by invitation and based on demonstrated leadership and contributions to the dental profession and society.

What Is a Diplomate?

A Diplomate is a periodontist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty and who is certified by the American Board of Periodontology.

To be educationally qualified for Board certification requires:

  • Certification as a dentist, including basic college education and completion of dental school to earn the D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree and;
  • Certification as a periodontist after postdoctoral study in an ADA approved program. This period of study is concentrated on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of periodontal disease.

In addition to the educational requirements, Board certification requires:

  • Comprehensive written and oral examinations covering all phases of periodontal disease and its treatment, including dental implants.
  • Presentation of detailed reports on a broad range of actual treatment personally provided by the periodontist.
  • Recertification every three years.
